
British Originally intended and designed Ceylon Government Railways (CGR) mainly to leg up transportation of Fertilizer, Machinery, Food to hill-country & bring back Tea & Coffee to Colombo for export. With time, CGR transformed from its original mission of goods conveyance to commuter transport for the distance travelers and subsequently became
the fastest mode for the office commuters.

Class S09 Power Sets
At a time, the fleet of Diesel Electric Locomotive AD 32C at Sri Lanka Railways were getting out of service due to mechanical & electrical and curving track incompatibility etc., IMS realized a grave and urgent need of fast & efficient locomotive service to the Sri Lankan commuters and after proper studies together with Sri Lanka Railways (former CGR) officials revealed the need of locomotives for the broad-gauge rail track and we succeeded in supplying the first batch of a Chinese Diesel Multiple Units (S9 Class) to Sri Lanka Railways in 2000 ensuring railway commuters with low journey time and high travelling comfort. Class S10 - 12 Power Sets
Subsequently another batch of 15 Nos. Diesel Multiple Units (S10 Class) in 2006 and as the 3rd batch another 13 Nos. Diesel Multiple Units (S12 Class) with Aire Conditioned compartments were added to the fleet of Sri Lanka Railways in 2012, with necessary speeds and fiber optic technology from its global technology providers.



As the scope and high potential at the market segment of Sri Lanka Railways was completely different to usually handled chemicals by IMS, it needed a portfolio segmentation in providing an emphasized & focused service to Sri Lanka Railways that brought forth the IMS Holdings Pvt Ltd..(IMSH) IMSH had budgeted for 2025 to establish a Service & Maintenance Unit anticipating the overhauling repairs of the Diesel Multiple Units supplied to Sri Lanka Railways from Chin. The Service & Maintenance unit will retain qualified and trained Mechanical Engineers and ex-Naval officers.
